Welcoming Notting Hill Carnival home

Terry Oliver explains how Kensington and Chelsea Council works behind the scenes year-round to help the Notting Hill Carnival function as the huge event it is today.

For hundreds of thousands (dare I say millions) of people, Notting Hill Carnival is one of the biggest weekends in the calendar.

Often with the sun shining as the summer nights draw in at the end of August, it's a cornerstone of culture in London's Notting Hill and around the world. What started out as a small parade to fight racial injustice has grown into a wonderfully diverse and electrifying festival.
