Attempts to recalibrate allowances for councillors in Wales have been branded as ‘divisive' by the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA).

A consultation, issued by the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales, proposes a 5% reduction in basic salaries for councillors below the current maximum, with those on senior salaries subject to a 10% cut below the highest level.
