The UK's largest business improvement district (BID) has thrown its weight behind calls for local authorities to retain their business rate income.

The powerful New West End Company (NWEC), which represents 600 major businesses in central London, wants councils to be allowed to reinvest business rates directly into local business-regeneration schemes.
