White paper reform a 'missed opportunity

Newport City Council has labelled the Welsh Government’s white paper on local government reform ‘disappointingly traditional’ and a missed opportunity.

Newport City Council has labelled the Welsh Government's white paper on local government reform ‘disappointingly traditional' and a missed opportunity.

Chief executive Will Godfrey told The MJ that the white paper was ‘stuck in the thinking of structure' and councils were being urged to create new regional, sub-regional and local structures ‘with no thought given to how we can create local systems serving local communities using the social capital within places'.
