Whitehall spending £56m daily on private firms, figures show

Figures show Whitehall spending £56m daily on private firms despite the Coalition Government pledges on efficiency.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) this month commissioned a one-month research project worth £99,838 into the future of local audit, according to analysis of government spending in 2011.

Details of the spend emerged into a survey of some 2,849 central government deals worth more than £10,000 signed since the start of the year.
