Senior local government figures have blasted Whitehall's ‘frustrating silence' over devolution as pressure mounts on prime minister Theresa May to deliver ‘grown up' deals.

The Government was dealt a major blow last week when key Northern Powerhouse champion Lord O'Neill quit the Treasury, prompting fears from the sector that the ‘wind had gone out of [devolution's] sails'.
