The prime minister has promised to put the 'whole machinery of government' behind the Northern Powerhouse as she vowed she was ‘absolutely committed' to devolution.

In an article in the Manchester Evening News, Theresa May said that ‘creating a country that works for everyone' was her Government's ‘mission'.
