Councils have called on the Government to review how it allocates public health funding to local authorities, after wide variations were found across the country.

The Department of Health last week published its baseline estimates of how much councils will have to spend per head on public health. Local authorities are gearing up for taking over responsibility for public health from primary care trusts from April 2013.
