Wilshaw: Councils must take responsibility for all schools

The Government’s outgoing chief inspector of schools has called on local authority bosses to ‘stand up and be counted’ and take responsibility for all schools.

The Government's outgoing chief inspector of schools has called on local authority bosses to ‘stand up and be counted' and take responsibility for all schools.

Speaking today at a conference organised by London Councils, Sir Michael Wilshaw, said elected mayors, council leaders and cabinet members should support and challenge schools ‘regardless of whether they are academies or not'.
