When our elected members formally acknowledged there was a climate emergency at a full council meeting earlier this year, it brought a huge global issue into sharp focus in Wiltshire. Not only did they agree that this emergency needed an urgent response, but they also vowed to ‘seek to make the county of Wiltshire carbon neutral by 2030'. This was a bold statement of intent, not for effect or the striking headlines it would make, but to galvanise people into action, as this truly is everyone's responsibility.
Following this, our cabinet announced, ‘Wiltshire Council will be carbon neutral by 2030'. Of course, it's within our power to achieve this but that doesn't lessen the challenge. It's a challenge we need to face head on due to the repercussions future generations will endure if things stay as they are.
