Wiltshire Council becomes the first major local authority to run without a chief executive.

Wiltshire Council has become the first major local authority to run without a chief executive, a decision the opposition leader has branded as 'insane'.

Since resolving to axe Andrew Kerr the council has 'deleted' the post of chief executive. Expected to depart within weeks, Mr Kerr, is in the running to succeed John Everitt at neighbouring Bath and North East Somerset Council upon his retirement next year.
