The chief executive of troubled Wirral MBC has praised the ‘sector-led' improvement programme at the Merseyside-based authority and said there must be no return to commissioner-led interventions.

Graham Burgess this week told The MJ the joint council and Local Government Association (LGA) improvement regime has proved so successful in Wirral that it should become standard practice.
