No wriggle room as coffers run dry

Rising wages and falling funding don't make happy bedfellows, according to Heather Jameson.

As the unions consider the local government pay deal, they must be doing so with the feeling that it's Hobson's choice.

With a 1% pay rise on the table, it is an improvement on the three-year freeze the sector has faced of late – but hardly cash bonanza for frontline workers. It barely even touches the inflationary pressures faced by households over the three-year freeze.
