Call to end 'excessively punitive sanctions' on benefits

A think-tank has warned that sanctions on benefit claimants are almost back to pre-pandemic levels – despite the cost of living crisis.

In a paper published today, the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) called for ‘a serious boost to benefit payments and an end to inappropriate conditions and excessively punitive sanctions that limit payments’.
