Tory backbenchers pile pressure on Government

The Government has withstood pressure from its own MPs to allow councils to hold remote meetings.

Peers voted to send the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill back to the House of Commons with a watered-down amendment from Conservative peer Baroness McIntosh that would give councillors limited options to attend meetings virtually.
