It's all about partnerships and collaboration

Participation in research about public sector partnerships gave South Tyneside MBC the momentum to forge a series of successful programmes, writes Martin Swales.

We were delighted to be asked by Matthew Taylor's team at the RSA to participate in its research, Leading for innovation in public sector partnerships. In a context of ongoing funding reductions and demand pressures, local authorities are increasingly sharing best practice from local relationships that inspire innovative solutions to shared challenges.

In South Tyneside, our approach to systems leadership appears to emulate characteristics identified in the report including a shared ethos and focus on our shared ambitions, embodied in a 20-year vision. They shape our strategy and provide a framework for the South Tyneside Partnership.
