Navigating the skills and local economic growth quandary

The recent launch of the SOLACE paper, Skills and Local Economic Growth, had one clear message: only by maximising skills outcomes can we successfully grow local economies, writes Martin Swales.

Earlier this year the Government published the Industrial Strategy green paper, setting out proposals to develop a strong and resilient economy against the backdrop of our proposed exit from the EU.

The proposals describe a much more interventionist approach in contrast to more recent policy. They also recognise the importance of skills to the country's economic agenda.
