On the United Nations day for disabled people, Paul Gamble expresses frustration that the Government’s review of housing standards present local authorities with only ‘optional’ standards for new accessible homes

Today (Wednesday 3rd December) is the United Nations day for rights for disabled people. Each year the UN promotes the rights of disabled people as enshrined in the UN ‘Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities' (UNCRPD).

Although the British government is a signatory to the convention, there are many areas of discrimination and inequality facing disabled people in the UK today which fail to uphold the letter, or even the spirit, of the Convention.
