New assurance regime needs to be 'far more useful'

According to the results of the Solace survey, no one thinks Oflog does the job and most think it should be scrapped, says Heather Jameson. 'When it comes to what would work, there is a clear answer. Make audit better', she adds.

Sometimes, just sometimes, I have sympathy for central government when it deals with colleagues at a local level. Though perhaps not too often!

Looking at the results of the Solace survey on the Office for Local Government (Oflog), it seems the sector is more split on the issue of assurance than the public was on Brexit. In all, 45% of respondents think local government has enough assurance, 45% think it is inadequate.
