Top-down asylum plans are a catastrophe in waiting

Barely a week goes by without a council discovering a Home Office plan to relocate asylum seekers into their area without warning, says Heather Jameson. 'Would it not just be better to work with local government to come up with plans that work?'

Throughout the early days of the pandemic, in the midst of the chaos and global crisis, the same lesson came up time and again: central Government attempts to work alone never go well.

It is a lesson ministers may have missed. In attempting to tackle problems relating to the current influx of asylum seekers, centrally-led, top-down solutions are creating chaos across communities.
