Audit reset requires 'different attitude'

A ‘whole different attitude’ to local audit is required to rescue the system from crisis, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chair has said as the system faces an uncertain future.

With the majority of the sector in England facing a two-year accounting backlog, changes lie in store for local audit, but the system has been left waiting on the outcome of the General Election.

The Conservative Government's proposed ‘reset' including a 30 September backstop deadline for outstanding audits up to 2022-23, was yet to be implemented before the election was called.
