Breaking the health outcomes gridlock

Aidan Rave says if councils can harness their place-based networks then Integrated Care Boards could just be the game-changer for improving the nation’s health.

Since its founding more than seven decades ago, the NHS has been subject to almost continuous reorganisations, announcements and new policy initiatives. 

Some of these have been minor tweaks, while some have been logical and necessary updates responding to massive societal changes. Most have been accompanied by triumphant political chest-beating about how ‘our' NHS is safe in the hands of whoever happens to be the government of the day.
