Brighton & Hove stalwart retires

Brighton & Hove City Council has announced the retirement of corporate director for corporate services and monitoring officer, Abraham Ghebre-Ghiorghis.

Ghebre-Ghiorghis joined the council 37 years ago, having arrived in the UK five years earlier as an asylum seeker from Eritrea.

He said: ‘The support, guidance, love and encouragement I received from members and officers over the years is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.'
