Greater Manchester's mayor has called for ‘wholesale change in the architecture and culture of the British state' to unite the country and drive economic growth.

Mayor Andy Burnham was speaking the day after Greater Manchester's ‘exciting' £630m integrated settlement funding deal – a block financial arrangement with Whitehall similar to ones with Scotland and Wales – came into effect.
