The case for prevention investment

We may talk in terms of prevention, preservation or perhaps resilience, but the evidence is that placing too low a premium on the future when we are making spending decisions today will eventually come back to bite us, says Abdool Kara.

As I sit here with barely a green blade of grass in sight and newly-imposed controls upon our household water usage, I am reminded of the difference between a drought and a famine.

The former is a climate phenomenon which we cannot prevent happening occasionally, while the latter is a political phenomenon, which lies within our collective control.
