Local authorities in Scotland dug into savings to close a budget gap of £759m last financial year, leaving them with a ‘challenging future', a spending watchdog has warned. 

The Accounts Commission said councils managed to offset a 3.3% real terms reduction in 2023-24 by making savings or using reserves.
