Cheshire West and Chester leader Louise Gittins has emerged as the frontrunner to be the next chair of the Local Government Association (LGA), The MJ understands.

With pollsters predicting a huge swing towards Labour in the 4 July General Election, the association faces a mass exodus of its senior councillors, forcing a reshuffle of local government's top posts.
