Chiefs law change plea to balance books

District council finance chiefs have suggested a change in the law to free local authorities from having to balance their budgets every year.

District council finance chiefs have suggested a change in the law to free local authorities from having to balance their budgets every year.

The Society of District Council Treasurers (SDCT) has urged the Government to consider changing the approach so that authorities would be allowed to set a balanced budget over a rolling period of either two or three consecutive years.
