Communities need real power and influence over how their health is approached

The question of governance structures has dominated the new healthcare landscape, says Jessica Studdert. 'The focus must be on creating new ways of working that are anchored in places, powered by their assets and with communities themselves at the heart.'

Those in and around local government might react with caution when the word ‘place' echoes from Government strategies.

It's great when those making policy in Whitehall recognise their plans inevitably land somewhere with people who must make them work. But an understanding of the realities of different places and the practicalities of delivery can prove elusive.
