The Government has committed to consulting the sector over new powers of intervention in council finances.

Shadow levelling up minister Alex Norris raised concerns about a clause in the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill that would bestow ‘significant powers' on the secretary of state to intervene in a local authority, including limiting borrowing and selling assets.
