Council taxpayers to 'pay more and get less'

Local authorities have been left in the unenviable position of raising taxes in an effort to balance their books following the Spending Review, Local Government Association members have said.

Local authorities have been left in the unenviable position of raising taxes in an effort to balance their books following the Spending Review, Local Government Association members have said.

Although councils' spending power increased, much of it assumes they will take advantage of powers to raise taxes by 2% without the need for a referendum, and a 3% social care precept rise.
