Local authorities will be allowed to delay big council tax increases next year ahead of elections, it has emerged.

Local authorities will be allowed to delay big council tax increases next year ahead of elections, it has emerged.

The decision to give social care authorities the flexibility to defer utilising part or all of the 3% precept for a year undermines the forecast in last week's Spending Review that core spending power will rise by 4.5% in cash terms in 2021/22.
