On 24 June Britain woke up to the momentous decision to leave the EU. As 52% of the population voted to Brexit, many were celebrating the idea of a new UK outside of the European Commission's control. Indeed, Nigel Farage, then head of UKIP, declared it a ‘victory for ordinary people' against ‘big politics and merchant banks'.
In his speech delivered to an ecstatic crowd, Nigel Farage hit the nail on the head: it was a decision that was largely made by those that were fed-up of the political elite and it was this discontent that drove them to seek change.
