Council's deputy leader falls victim to nuclear waste row

Hartlepool Council’s Cllr Mike Young has resigned after meeting the body behind a planned radioactive waste facility.

Hartlepool Council's deputy leader has become the first casualty of a row over proposals for a nuclear waste facility.

Conservative Cllr Mike Young announced his resignation as deputy leader and deputy mayor after confirming he met with representatives of Radioactive Waste Management (RWM), the government body responsible for building an underground ‘geological disposal facility' to store radioactive waste in the UK.
