There are 1,000 asset transfers already underway - from community centres to phone boxes - according to a survey of councils by the Asset Transfer Unit (ATU).

Car Parks and Castles: Giving communities the key found that most asset transfers have occurred in deprived areas, with urban councils reporting more than rural ones. Of the councils responding, 49% said they expected the number of asset transfers to increase in the next year.
