Councils and union clash over zero-hour contracts

Councils have insisted on keeping the option of zero-hour contracts as Unison prepares to push the sector’s associations to back a campaign to abolish them.

Councils have insisted on keeping the option of zero-hour contracts as Unison prepares to push the sector's associations to back a campaign to abolish them.

The trade union's local government conference agreed this week to seek talks on the issue with the Local Government Association (LGA), the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA), the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) and the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA).
