COVID-19 impact on council income uncovered

Spending on car parks fell to 10% of 2019 levels and gyms 20% during the first lockdown.

Councils' income plummeted during the spring lockdown and has yet to recover, according to new analysis.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) found spending on parking dropped to 10% during the spring lockdown compared to 2019, hitting a peak of 70% before falling again to 30% at the time of the November lockdown.
