Creaking at the seams

Health and care could give Theresa May as much of a headache as Brexit and the economy in the coming year, writes Ben Page.

What a year! Local government and the NHS struggle on, and keep the show on the road, although the pips are squeaking.

Brexit and a new government offer little respite for people juggling shrinking budgets, despite giving up plans to balance the books any time soon. Our latest Ipsos MORI Veracity Index sees trust in politicians fall to only 15% but local councillors as usual do rather better (41%). Pollsters, since you ask, are at 49%, down from 53% last year.
