Whitehall has insisted that local authorities will be funded for new burdens connected with plans to introduce compulsory weekly food waste collections.

The pledge from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) comes as local authorities call on the Government to disclose the model it has used to calculate the financial impact on councils.
