A senior local government finance director has defended his profession after one in five admitted consultations had ‘little or no real impact’ on their decisions.

A senior local government finance director has defended his profession after one in five admitted consultations had ‘little or no real impact' on their decisions.

The survey by Grant Thornton also found 44% of directors said public consultations were just ‘one element of a wider discussion' compared to 37% who viewed their impact as ‘significant'.
