Diversity – reform starts here

Mark Greenburgh examines the results of a recent national LGBT survey and muses on how this may impact the local government sector.

On 3 July the minister for equalities, Baroness Williams of Trafford (former leader of Trafford MBC) reported on the results of the Government's national LGBT survey which the Government Equalities Office (GEO) undertook towards the end of last year. While the outcomes of that survey are not a complete or fully representative study (for example, it excluded respondents under the age of 16, and BME communities were very unrepresented) nevertheless, with more than 108,000 responses in the UK, the survey does serve as a useful benchmark.

The survey results in full are posted on the GEO website (https://bit.ly/2IRtTwO).
