Doorway to a digital future

The reunification of the Government’s digital and data office into a larger Department for Science, Innovation and Technology will aid open working practices and foster better knowledge-sharing, faster learning and a robust digital and technology hub within government, says Dave Mann

The new Labour administration has delivered its first King's Speech, marking a significant shift in priorities and ways of operating for government. The speech, built around Labour's five missions, is a new approach to establishing shared priorities across government and, after a relatively quiet legislative period in 2023, a notable change of pace.

One of the key changes already introduced is the reunification of the Government Digital Service (GDS) and the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) into a larger Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology. This reorganisation, which also includes the incubator for artificial intelligence, aims to establish a robust digital and technology hub within government.
