A drive on digitising

Councils must recognise that digitising public services is the key to engaged communities, says Greg Thomas

Funding cuts have left councils with less money to spend on resources such as public libraries, meaning a significant reduction in the help they can provide to residents and local businesses.

Beyond books, libraries provide free Wi-Fi, computer access, start-up business support, digital skills training, access to meeting spaces and many other services. In fact, there were 225 million physical visits to public libraries in England in 2015.
