England's planning system is broken

Tom Stannard sets out the scale of the regeneration challenge, including the vital need to improve transport connectivity – and he says an unreformed planning system represents a real threat to the Government’s levelling up agenda.

Following much fanfare and not a little bravado the Government has now confirmed that its standalone planning legislation and the controversial growth zones of the 2020 Planning White Paper have been dropped

In what represents a hefty dilution of planning reform, we are now looking at a rather more incremental approach to be achieved through levelling up legislation.
