Getting on with integrated care

Greater Manchester believes the formal governance of the new integrated care system and the voice of place within it will be fundamental to its future success in narrowing health inequalities, says Tom Stannard.

April 28 2022 could go down as one of the more important milestones in the history of central-local relationships over health and social care. Why is this the case?

After much speculation about delays, the new Health and Care Bill finally received Royal Assent, enacting into law the new structure of integrated care systems (ICS) across the country. Within this reorganisation comes a significant change at the local level – the dissolution of the clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), and an enhanced role for place and local government.
