Essex CC's leader has questioned the benefits of Basildon BC's pursuit of unitary status.

Last week, Basildon's leader, Cllr Gavin Callaghan, announced the council was preparing a business case as the borough was ‘not being prioritised' and the authority's ambitions could only be achieved through control of education, highways and transport services - all currently under the county's remit.
