The future of sector-led improvement hangs in the balance today with fears that Whitehall's grant to the Local Government Association (LGA) could be pulled and the process put out to tender.

With the finance settlement just days away, local government insiders have suggested the cash the LGA receives to deliver sector-led improvement could be under threat from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) axe.
