Senior MPs lambast DfE failings on children's care as inquiries expose UK-wide problems
Education secretary Michael Gove is today accused of exacerbating the crisis in children's care by forcing his department to focus too heavily on schools at the expense of children's services. Graham Stuart MP, Conservative chair of the Commons education select committee, has told The MJ he is ‘concerned' that Mr Gove has downgraded the children's minister role within the Department for Education (DfE), and urged the secretary of state to recruit a specialist, non-executive director ‘with particular responsibility for children's care'.
