Senior civil servants are expected to push ahead with plans to introduce more light-touch financial interventions in councils under returning local government secretary Michael Gove, The MJ understands.

Whitehall has struggled to find commissioners after launching interventions into scores of local authorities, including Nottingham City Council, Thurrock BC and Croydon LBC.
