Exclusive: LGA political balance is on a knife edge

Political control at the Local Government Association (LGA) hangs in the balance after Sheffield City Council chose to come back into membership at the 11th hour.

Political control at the Local Government Association (LGA) hangs in the balance after Sheffield City Council chose to come back into membership at the eleventh hour. 

The Labour authority said it would rejoin the association before the election night deadline. Under LGA rules, any authority in membership by 10pm on polling day will be used as part of the calculations for political control – which dictates who will be chairman.
